How to Make Summer SUPER with these Great Activities

With the release of the new Avengers movie, superheroes are bigger than ever! If your kids have been swept up in the excitement and can’t get enough of their favorite crime-fighting characters, CostumeExpress.com has some MARVELous activities to keep the whole family entertained this summer.

Summertime means warm temperatures and sunny skies – and the perfect opportunity to take your superheroes outside for playtime! Let them dress up as Superman and Wonder Woman as they kick soccer balls around the yard. Encourage them to ride bikes as Batman and Robin, speeding off to fight the bad guys as their capes flow behind them. Take pictures of them “flying” through the sky while they jump on the trampoline as Captain America or Iron Man. Help your entrepreneurs set up and run a “totally tubular” lemonade stand dressed as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Your kids and their friends will be inspired to use their imaginations as they become their favorite superheroes, all while enjoying fun summertime activities and creating lasting memories.

Exercise your kids’ brains with a superhero treasure hunt. Watch them read clues from their favorite superheroes as they work their way towards finding a fantastic treasure! It could be anything from a new book, action figure, the latest superhero movie, or a costume to add to their dress-up chest. Here are some treasure hunt clues from the bravest of superheroes:

1. Spiderman: Whoops! My web shooters are acting up and have shot webs EVERYWHERE! I have to clean these up before Aunt May gets home. Where can I find something to clean these? (Child should go to wherever duster is kept)

2. Captain America: Good job! We don’t want Spiderman getting in trouble. I’m looking for something with stars and stripes on it that matches my uniform. Do you have anything like that around your house? (American flag hanging outside)

3. Iron Man: Cap loves his stars and stripes. Can you help me out? I need to get in touch with JARVIS – do you have somewhere that I could do that? (Computer/Study)

4. Hulk/Bruce Banner: Hulk Smash! You wouldn’t believe how many shirts I go through – every time I get angry, I have to go find a new shirt. Can you lend me one of yours? If you have a green one that would be great – it is my favorite color after all! (Closet or dresser with a green shirt)

5. Batman: I see the bat signal – to the bat mobile! (to the car/garage)

6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: DUDE! We’re totally hungry – Do you know where we could find some pizza?!? (To the fridge/freezer)

7. Thor: Human! I am in need of assistance. It seems I have knocked that picture off of the wall and must make this right. My hammer will make the puny wall crumble – do you have the hammer of a human that I can use? (to the work bench/tool shed)

8. Superman/Clark Kent: Have you seen the most recent article about me in the newspaper? Lois really outdid herself this time! Let’s go read it together! (find a newspaper around the house)

9. The Flash: Can you run as fast as me? Let’s find out! I’ll race you to the spot in your house where you can regain your strength, dream of flying over the city, read about great adventures, and hang out with your best friends (child’s bedroom – where they sleep, dream, get stories read to them at night, and play with their stuffed animals/toys)

10. All Characters: Congratulations! We knew you could help us out! To show our appreciation we would like to make you an honorary superhero, and present you with this [enter gift here]

Every superhero (and their parents) needs some downtime amidst all of the fun and activities of the summer! Have a “superheroes’-night-in,” where you can enjoy quality time together as a family doing things that you all love. Start off the night by building Superman’s “Fortress of Solitude” out of blankets, chairs, and cushions. Put sleeping bags and pillows on the floor to make sure everyone is comfortable. Enjoy some great superhero snacks – like pizza, apple pie (Captain America’s favorite), and Hulk-green punch (link to recipe). After everyone is settled in, finish off the evening by watching episodes of the “Justice League” cartoon, the latest Avengers flick, or an old-school Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

From everyone at Costume Express, we hope you have a SUPER summer watching your kids’ imaginations flourish, and enjoying being together as a family!
